Wuhan has a distinguished history from the days before China was unified, and it was the starting point of the revolution that overthrew the last emperor of China. Now it is a large university town with a population of almost 10 million; the city is moving up (literally), and it is poised to become a center of growth for optical technology.

The Mongols were a tribe that settled in Ancient China. Their reign lasted for many years (from Middle Ages to the Renaissance, In Chinese History they first appeared and they first started going after China during the Tang Dynasty) The Mongols set out to pillage and destroy every city they could, so they could conquer it. The only time they were not successful in their battles for the expansion of their empire was when they sailed out into the sea and tried attacking the Ancient Japanese. They had no idea that those Samurai were willing to give up their lives(they even committed suicide in the most painful manner, seppuku, which is plunging a sword into their belly, and cutting across their side.)

But behind the wall’s intimidating exterior—and the myths that have built up around it—is a complex history that has both defined and undermined China. Author Julia Lovell has wr
